Somalia participates in Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum

Istanbul, Oct 22, 2021: The Federal Republic of Somalia has today concluded participation at the two-day Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum (TABEF) held in Istanbul, Turkey, during the third forum which was organized by the Ministry of Trade of Turkey, the African Union and Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEiK).

Federal Republic of Somalia was among the African nations present at the forum represented by the Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Khalif Abdi Omar who led the Somali delegation which included among other officials, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Turkey, His Excellency Jama Abdullahi to join ministers and business leaders from African countries.

On the sidelines of the forum, Minister of Trade and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia Hon. Khalif Abdi Omar held a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hon. Dr. Mehmet Muş where they discussed strengthening the longstanding trade relations between our two brotherly nations to deepen and develop our relationship in various fronts.

The officials discussed the finalization of the TEPA agreement on economic cooperation and Somalia-Turkey trade which is in its final stages to enhance and boost Somalia’s trade balance with Turkey.

The talks led by the two ministers also included officials from the Embassy led by Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Turkey, His Excellency Jama Abdullahi and officials from the commercial representative Mardiya Mohamed Abdi and others.

The meeting further deliberated on ways to facilitate ease of doing business in Turkey for Somali businesspeople to provide a conducive business atmosphere to boost investment between our two citizens.

Finally, the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum (TABEF) concluded this evening with the presence of President of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, senior government leaders from Africa, Turkish Minister of Trade Hon. Dr. Mehmet Muş, President of DEiK Mr. Nail Olpak, African Union Commission (AUC), and other guests.
