Embassy evacuates citizens affected by COVID-19

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Turkey led by H.E Ambassador Jama Abdullahi Mohamed continued its efforts to facilitate the evacuation of our citizens as part of measures to reduce the impact of the disruptions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The citizens were accompanied by embassy officials who ensured their transportation by buses from their locations in Ankara and Istanbul before their successful departure from Istanbul airport to Somalia aboard Turkish airlines flights.

The success followed weeks of tireless coordination and close collaboration between our two republics and government officials.

I am very grateful to the Turkish government for facilitating the evacuation of people. I would also like to thank everyone who worked behind this success, the embassy staff who really showed extra effort and the committee that worked with us to plan, coordinate and implement this task.

All the Turkish Airlines planes left Istanbul airport and landed in Mogadishu carrying hundreds of people including children and the elderly. Other passengers included Somali government officials and Turkish officials working with various Turkish agencies operating in the country.
